Terrain in three dimensions

Drag to turn it. Two fingers, or the wheel, to come closer. Drag up and down with two fingers to tilt. Everything you have recorded is on it — stations at the height the elevation model gives them, your traverse as a line, and every plane you have measured as a disc lying at its own dip.

A section along a line, with your stations projected onto it. This is the quickest way to find out whether a contact is where you think it is — if two stations on the same horizon come out at different heights on the profile, either the unit is dipping or one of the observations is wrong.

Slope, aspect and curvature straight from the elevation model. Aspect is the direction water runs, which is also the direction a slide would go and the direction a hillside faces the sun — three different questions with the same answer.

this is the part that matters in the field

Everything else in this app works with no signal. This page does not, unless you bring the tiles with you. Choose an area before you leave and it is stored on the device — after that the terrain loads in an aeroplane, in a canyon, or in a country whose network you are not paying for.

All of it is open and free, and none of it asks you for a key or an account. Attribution is carried on the view itself, because these people gave the data away and the least anyone can do is say so.

The flat map, with geology from Macrostrat over it, is Map. Measuring a plane in the field so it can appear here is Compass and clinometer, and what the planes mean once you have several is Structure. A slope angle read here can be carried straight into Slope stability.
